Joseph was born in Bridgeport, Connecticut, on February 10, 1966, to the late Andrew and Anna Takacs.
Affectionately known as “The Juice,” “Juicy,” “Joey,” and, most importantly, “Dad,” Joseph was, above all else, devoted to his family. He spent his life making sure the people he loved were cared for, and there was never a question that he would be there when they needed him.
Joseph was a husband, a son, a son-in-law, a grandson, a father, an uncle, a friend, a proud United States Marine Corps veteran, a goofball, and always unapologetically himself. He loved fishing, the outdoors, the mountains, and just about anything that allowed him to be surrounded by nature. And, as everyone who knew him knows, he loved his Pittsburgh Steelers.
But more than anything, Joseph loved his family.
Some of his happiest moments were also the simplest ones; from date nights with his bride, Susanna, to Sunday family days spent surrounded by the people he loved, feeding everyone his homemade sauce and, of course, his famous chicken cutlets. For Joseph, love was often shown by taking care of people, feeding them, making them laugh, and simply being there.
To Susanna, Joseph was so much more than her husband. He was her best friend, her rock, her safe place, her ride or die, and the love of her life. Their life together was built not only on the big moments, but on countless ordinary ones; the laughter, the conversations, the date nights, the family Sundays, and simply being beside one another. Those ordinary moments have now become some of the most precious memories of all.
There is no doubt that Joseph was deeply loved, and the absence he leaves behind is immeasurable. He will be profoundly missed by his wife, his children, his family, his friends, and everyone fortunate enough to have known and loved him.
His laughter, his humor, his loyalty, and his love of family will live on in the stories told and the memories shared by the people who loved him most. Joseph was truly one of a kind, and there will never be another.
In addition to his parents, Joseph is preceded in death by his sister, Dawn Takacs; his best friend, Joseph Frank Piccolo; and his cousins, Cody Thomas and Alexander Burdo.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Susanna, and his children, Jake, Alexa, Gabriella, Jason (Karli), Isabella (Elijah), and Armando. He was also so incredibly excited and proud to be a grandfather-to-be, a role he was already looking forward to with so much love.
One of Joseph’s greatest joys in the final chapter of his life was learning that his son Jason and Karli were expecting a baby. When they shared the news, Joseph was overcome with emotion and cried tears of pure happiness. From that moment on, he could hardly contain his excitement about becoming a grandfather. He was already looking at baby Jordans and, naturally, Pittsburgh Steelers clothes for his grandbaby. He spoke constantly about how happy and proud he was and how much he was looking forward to becoming a grandfather. Although he never had the chance to hold his grandchild in his arms, there is no question that this baby was already deeply loved by Papa.
In addition to his wife and children, Joseph is survived by his nieces, Elizabeth and Gabriella Robinson; his cousins, Gerry and Gabrielle Burdo, Frank and Christina Venezia, and Lynda Depiano; his brothers- and sisters-in-law, Robert and Anna Imbrogno, Armando Jr. and Jackie Imbrogno, and Rocco and Teresa Imbrogno; as well as his many nieces, nephews, extended family members, cousins, and dear friends across the world.
Friends and family are invited to gather in celebration of Joseph’s life at 2:00pm Wednesday, September 30, 2026, at McLaurin Funeral Home in Clayton, NC. The family will receive friends from 1:00pm-2:00pm, just prior to the service. A reception will follow the service at 3:00pm at the funeral home, with light refreshments served.
Celebration of life services will also be held in Connecticut at a later date and will be announced.
