2026.
Ken was born on June 20, 1945, in Ann Arbor, Michigan, to Wilbert and Dorothy Schumacher Buss. He grew up in Manchester, Michigan, and graduated from Cleary College with a degree in business. He spent his career with Edwards Brothers, a printing and publishing company based in Michigan. In 1984, Ken was given the
opportunity to open an Edwards Brothers location in Lillington, North Carolina, where he served as business manager until his retirement in 2012.
Although Ken was the plant supervisor and primary overseer of the operation, those who worked for him were blessed by his unassuming leadership and gentle demeanor. He accomplished great things professionally, but he led with a servant’s heart, always
placing the needs of his employees first.
Ken’s later years were marked by great joy, as retirement gave him the time and freedom to invest more fully in the things that mattered most to him. His happiest moments were spent surrounded by family and friends. He was a devoted husband and
father and an exceptionally dedicated grandfather. He was also a committed member of his faith community, Soul Church in Clayton.
Ken was the kind of person who was always available to help. No matter the problem or challenge, he not only seemed to have a solution, but he was determined to see it through. His dependability and loyalty gave those around him a deep sense of security—they knew they could count on him.
Even in his final days, Ken’s focus remained on the people he was leaving behind, making sure they would be cared for after he was gone. For those who had the honor of
being part of Ken’s life, there is no doubt that his influence and presence left a lasting mark. He made the people around him better simply by the way he lived and loved.
Ken will be deeply missed, but the life he lived will continue to bear fruit through his
family, his friends, and the countless people who were blessed to know him.
Ken is survived by his faithful wife of 52 years, Victoria “Vickie” Wurster Buss; his sister, Marilyn Buss; and his children, David Charles Buss (Sarah), Kathlene “Katie” Buss Chatham (Lee), and Lisa Marie Sharek (Dave). Among his greatest joys in life were his
four grandchildren: Hartley Grace Buss (16), Miller Charles Buss (14), Mia Grace Chatham (14), and Harper Faith Chatham (12).
His passing leaves a tremendous void in the family he loved so well, but his legacy of fortitude, wisdom, and humble generosity will live on through the many lives he touched throughout his 81 years.
A Celebration of Life honoring Ken will be held on Saturday, October 17, 2026 at Faith Community Church in Clayton.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Amedisys Hospice Care or Soul Church.
The family will also host a blood drive in Ken’s honor at HopeFront Church on Saturday, November 21, 2026, from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. During his journey with leukemia, Ken’s life was extended through the generosity of countless blood donors and the many
transfusions he received. It was his wish that the blood given to him be replaced so that others might be blessed with more time with the people they love, just as he was.
In this way, even after his passing, Ken’s quiet generosity will continue to give life to
others.
