Leonides Canales Sustaita

Leo was a devoted family man, a loving father, grandfather, husband, brother, son, cousin, and friend whose greatest joy came from spending time with those he loved. He had a kind heart, a gentle spirit, and a quiet strength that touched everyone who knew him.

He was a 22-year veteran of the United States Air Force. His passions were traveling, playing chess with friends and family, and caring for his tropical fish. By sharing stories or simply enjoying time with loved ones, Leo created lasting memories that will be treasured forever.

Leo is survived by his daughter, Crystal Oddo; his son, Leo Sustaita (Christina); his cherished grandchildren, Jolene and Phillip Oddo, Angelina and Lillian Sustaita; his brothers and sisters, Antonio Sustaita, Jennie Guardado, Ramona Gillespie, and Belinda York; and Connie Batista his lifelong best friend along with CJ Batista. He also leaves behind many nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family members, and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Herlinda and Antonio Sustaita and sisters Casandra and Danielle. Leo’s legacy of love, honor, loyalty, and service will forever remain in our hearts.

A celebration of Leo's life will be held on Sunday, July 26, 2026, from 2:00-3:00pm at McLaurin Funeral Home in Clayton, NC.
