When Linda Roach Airington entered this world, who knew what an impact she would have not only on her loved ones, but also so many outside her inner circle? She was born to Paul and Addie Mae Roach on April 18, 1948, in Pinehurst, NC. Her father’s job eventually led her to the Raleigh, NC, area where she spent most of her life.
Linda met the love of her life and husband of almost 59 years, Johnnie Keith Airington, through friends when she was a teenager. She must have been quite a catch because Johnnie says he knew from their first date that she was “the one.” In truth, most people were drawn to Linda because of her ability to put them at ease and to make every occasion a festive one. Her creativity shined through her paintings and crafts, but also through her everyday family dinners, holiday treats, Secret Garden backyard escape and grandchildren gifts.
Linda’s many passions in life included family, first and foremost. Her children and grandchildren brought her immense pride, and she was quick to tell everyone how special they are. She also loved her coffee, hosting events, decorating, crafting with and for her grandchildren, and making everything magical. She was quite the encourager and brought out the best in all those she came in contact with. She loved the Lord with all her heart and was very active in her church community, serving as an example for younger generations.
As much as she loved her family and friends, she also loved helping other people. Linda began her banking career as a check processor with the then North Carolina National Bank. She rose through the ranks and earned her associate degree in paralegal technology while she worked at the bank. Eventually, she earned the position of Vice President of Real Estate & Trust Services at Bank of America, a position typically reserved for those with a law degree. Linda soared professionally and remained humble personally, keeping a good balance between confidence and remaining grounded.
Linda is survived by her husband, Johnnie Keith Airington; son, Joseph Airington (wife, Ranita; daughters Lilly and Molly); daughter, Ashley Leonard (husband, Richard; sons, Justin, Caleb and Patrick), as well as brother Gary Roach (wife, Maria), and a host of beloved cousins, nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, as well as sister Sybil Roach, brother Hal Roach and sister Katherine Whaley.
Linda is already rejoicing with her Savior in Heaven, and we will celebrate her life and influence on Saturday, November 22, at 10 a.m. at McLaurin Funeral Home, located at 12830 Clayton Blvd. in Clayton, NC. In lieu of flowers, please donate to the Alzheimer’s Association in Linda’s honor.
