Matthew Leonard

Matthew William Leonard, 85, passed away on Monday, December 12, 2016. A funeral service will be held at 10:00 am, Monday, December 19, 2016 at St Ann Catholic Church in Clayton, NC with Internment to follow at Knollwood Memorial Park. A Korean War Veteran having served in the US Navy, Matthew married the love of his life, Anne on December 6, 1952 and during their sixty four years of marriage they had five children. He worked as a Steamfitter with Plumbers and Steamfitters Local 21 for forty years and loved to read and to work in the yard. A devout Catholic, Matthew was very active in his church, he was loved and will be greatly missed by his family and friends. He is survived by his wife of sixty four years, Anne; daughters, Kathleen Knickerbocker and husband Scott of Clayton, NC, Suzanne Monet of New Milford, CT; daughter-in-law, Karen Leonard of Hyde Park, NY; sister-in-law, Jo Rayle and husband Gordon of Greensboro, NC. He is also survived by seven grandchildren and two great grandchildren. Mr. Leonard is preceded in death by his parents, William Joseph and Bridget Christine Lloyd Leonard, sons, Thomas Leonard and Matthew Leonard Jr., a daughter, Nancy Leonard and a sister, Joan Rizos.
