Michael David Little, 68, of Clayton, NC, passed away on October 6, 2023, after a year-long battle with Colon Cancer. He was born in Kawaha County, West Virginia, to Robert Lee Little, Sr. and Patricia Deloras (McLaughlin) Little on February 25, 1955, the youngest of four children.
He is predeceased by his father, Robert Lee Little, Sr., his older sister Debra Kay (Little) Brych (George), and his older brother, Robert Lee Little, Jr. (Joanne).
Michael is survived by his mother, Patricia of Clayton, NC, his sister, Patricia Karen (Little) Bailey (Paul) of Clayton, NC, his nieces, nephews, cousins, and three aunts.
Michael spent 27 years as a machinist at WLS Stamping Company in Cleveland, Ohio; prior to that, he worked as a truck driver, an orderly at the Spencer Mental Hospital in Spencer, West Virginia, served honorably in the U.S. Army, and worked for Steel Alloy in Detroit, Michigan.
He was a devoted son to his mother, Patricia; he continued living with her until her dementia became too much to handle at home. He was greatly saddened to move her to memory care but was thrilled to see her flourish under the watchful attendance and care at Gabriel Manor in Clayton, NC. Michael will be remembered lovingly by his numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and great nieces/nephews. Known for growing fine watermelons and tomatoes while living in West Virginia, his nieces and nephews remember fondly enjoying the giant juicy watermelons (on the porch, couldn’t bring that sticky mess into the house) with “Uncle Mikey” just laughing at their sticky faces, hands, and shirts.
He was a quiet man but had a wicked sense of humor. He enjoyed watching sci-fi and horror movies, much like his father. Michael was an avid reader of mysteries and sci-fiction; after moving to Clayton, NC, his sister (Karen) would bring boxes of books from the used bookstore for Michael to devour.
Michael will be remembered as a loving son, brother, and uncle. He was a bear of a man with the heart of a teddy.
The family would like to thank the Johnston Health Oncology Center staff and the staff at the SECU Hospice House in Smithfield, NC, for caring for Michael and his family during his final year.
Michael requested no funeral or memorial service be held.
The family requests donations to your local Hospice House/Center in place of flowers.
