I live in Charlotte now and was so surprised to hear of Mickey's passing. Mickey. His family should know that he was a great guy. Even back in the days when kids in small-town Clayton would do mischievous things, Mickey always seemed to be a level above it.

Mickey was soooo funny. I'll always remember riding back to school in Raleigh with him one night. He was driving down Highway 70 and opened his door and yelled, "Somebody jumped in!" I was a little startled and didn't know what to say or how to react. Then, a few seconds later, he opened the door again and said, "Jumped back out!" I probably laughed for the next 5 minutes! That was pure Mickey: he didn't need any unseemly language or anything like that to make you laugh.

Mickey was simply a good person and he represented the Nixon's well. Many years have passed since we spoke, but I feel like I lost a good and dependable friend. Mickey was just that kind of a guy.

Although I didn’t know Mickey personally , I felt like I did because of his sweet sister Julie. My heart was so saddened by this news and my prayers go out to the whole Nixon family . Heaven gained a beautiful angel and I just know he is smiling down at each and everyone of you. May God grant you each a sense of peace as you all grieve this huge loss .

I served with Mickey on Clayton Fire Department and Raleigh Fire Department. I also had the honor of coaching with Mickey in 1989 when Clayton won the state 2A football title. Mickey was a pleasure to be around and always gave 110%. He will be missed by so many people. To the family you are in our thoughts and prayers.

I worked with Mickey at Station8 and we were captains on Cshift Bat1. I admired and respected Mickey. It was a great comfort to see his engine roll up, it is very sad to hear of his passing. My thoughts and prayers are with you.

To the family of my friend since first grade, there’s a story behind that, my prayers are with you during this time. In our conversations, he wondered if he would get a chance to see his grandson. I told him he would. Well, God in His infinite wisdom, saw fit for that to take place. In my last visit with Mickey, he had on his grandpa T-shirt with a big smile. When I left him that day, he gave me a strong hug and told me that he loved me. I told him the same my friend! I will forever remember that day. May God’s peace and comfort be with you all in the days, weeks, and years to come as you have fond memories of Mickey. He will definitely be missed! God Bless you!
