CLAYTON – Michele Fay White Prokup, age 52, passed away on Friday, October 22, 2021 at UNC Rex Hospital in Raleigh.
A memorial service to celebrate Michele’s life will be held 11:00 am Saturday, October 30, 2021 in the chapel of McLaurin Funeral Home with Pastor David Sutphin officiating. The family will receive friends following the service.
Michele was born on October 19, 1969, in Guam to the late James Carson White Jr. and Linda Cutler White.
She worked as a Special Education Teacher and enjoyed traveling the world with her husband and raising her four beautiful girls.
She is survived by her husband Frank Prokup; children, Jenna Elizabeth, Emily Marie, Lauren Christina, and Katherine (Kate) Nicole; mother Linda Cutler White and sisters, Deborah Sue White, Sharon Lynne Smith, Pamela Gail Florence and a large extended family across the U.S.
Michele was known for her dazzling smile and her willingness to try anything once. She was an amazing hostess and made everyone feel welcome, friends became family the minute they walked in the door. Growing up, she had a mischievous spirit but with her quick smile and loving attitude was always able to make you laugh and forget whatever stunt she had just pulled. Michele also knew how to enjoy a good marguerita at La Cocina and had salt water from the Gulf of Mexico running through her veins and white sand from Pensacola Beach between her toes.
Michele’s greatest joy in life was found in her family. Anyone who knew her even for the briefest of times, realized that she was a devoted mother. She not only loved her children but enjoyed every opportunity to celebrate their accomplishments and explore new adventures alongside them. Michele grew up in a military family and after marrying Frank continued the wander lust tradition and even after his retirement could always be talked into another trip, especially if it involved salt water and sand.
In all of the stories that have been shared with the family there is one constant throughout, people have told us that when they were at their lowest or had some overwhelming circumstance in their own lives that Michele jumped right in and helped, and they say they could never have made it through that time without her.
Michele left us far too soon, and the world is all the worse for it.
