Nancy DeCicco (Monahan) of Clayton, North Carolina, went home to the Lord on June 11, 2026. She was born on September 9, 1960, to the late Lillian D. (née Barger) and Ernest A. Monahan. Nancy grew up in Hasbrouck Heights, NJ, and was the apple of her father’s eye.
Nancy was a devoted and loving mother to her daughter, Samantha “Sam” Jager, and her husband, Chuck. She absolutely adored her grandchildren, Lilly and CJ, who brought her endless joy.
From grammar school through high school, Nancy was known for her courageous smile and her natural love for people. That same warmth carried into her years working as a barmaid at her family’s bar, where customers came not only for a drink but for Nancy’s kind words, her encouragement, and her ability to brighten even the worst day.
In her 50s, Nancy faced the pain and challenges of lung disease and later received a successful lung transplant. Through every step of that journey, Sam—her daughter, her best friend, and her fiercest advocate—was by her side with unwavering love and compassion.
After moving to North Carolina with Sam and her family, Nancy began experiencing signs of transplant rejection. Over the last two years, Sam made more than 70 trips to Duke University, never once complaining, always determined to support her mom through every moment. Sam’s husband, children, and mother in law stood with Nancy as well, surrounding her with love until her final breath.
Nancy never lost her humor or her compassion. She loved telling stories about her daughter and her family, and she cherished her weekly calls with her friend Mary (Doherty), which always ended in laughter. In her last days, her dear friend Debbie Stenton (Kubs) sat by her side, keeping Nancy laughing until she simply couldn’t anymore. Nancy left this world exactly the way she wanted—surrounded by love, laughter, and the people who meant the most to her.
Nancy survives by her loving daughter, Samantha, and her husband, Chuck; her cherished grandchildren, CJ and Lilly Jager; and her brothers, Jack, Bruce, and Mark. She was predeceased by her brother, Scott. She is also survived by her many beloved nieces and nephews.
Our mom, sister, and friend will be forever missed, forever loved, and forever remembered.
