Nancy Leighton Weber, 82, of Clayton, NC, died peacefully on November 14, 2025, surrounded by her children, her dear friends, and her beloved dog, Benji. A memorial service will be held at McLaurin Funeral Home in Clayton, NC on November 20, 2025 at 11am.
Nancy was born to Lloyd Leighton and Marjorie Anderson Leighton on August 1, 1943 in Portland, ME. She spent much of her early life in Hollis, ME, where she attended school at a one room school house until attending Hollis High School where she graduated in the Class of 1961. Shortly after high school, Nancy left Maine for Washington, DC, where she worked as a secretary at the Pentagon. She met the love of her life, Darrell E. Weber, an Honor Guard at the Tomb of the Unknown Solider, on a blind date and they married soon after. After Darrell completed his military service, they moved to Minnesota, where they started a family.
Due to Darrell’s job, Nancy lived in Minnesota, Massachusetts, and finally ended up in North Carolina, where she lived in Raleigh, Davidson and Clayton. Nancy grew up traveling with her grandmother all over the coast of Maine and islands during the summers, and her love of the sea remained with her the rest of her life. She travelled with her children annually to Maine to spend the summer with her family, which included lots of beach-going. Later in life, she and Darrell enjoyed their annual visits to Emerald Isle, where the her children, and later grandchildren, would enjoy the beach with many of her close friends coming to stay as well.
Nancy was outgoing, quick with a joke, and could make a friend of everyone. She loved running errands, shopping and dining out, especially if she could meet up with friends to do it. She was the life of every party and was so vibrant it seemed to all of us she would live forever. She was an avid reader, knitter, golfer, card player, and, after Darrell predeceased her in 2022, she took up watercolor painting and mahjong. She loved to travel, and visited countries in Europe, Australia, and many other places in both the US and outside.
Nancy is survived by her children Jeffrey K. Weber and Wendy C. Weber, her grandchildren Oliver Deeds and Clementine Deeds, and many extended family in both Maine and Minnesota. She also left close friends all over the world, as well as in Clayton. She will be sorely missed.
