She was born in Harnett County on May 1, 1936 to the late Bryant Norris and the late Mattie Byrd Norris. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her daughter, Sheila Faith Knott; her grandson Brian Keith Adams; sisters Louise Pollard, Kathleen Byrd, Ann Messler; and brother Billy Norris.
Peggy grew up on a humble farm in Harnett County as one of 11 children. Her family supported and attended Red Hill Pentecostal Free Will Baptist Church in Coats, North Carolina.
Peggy was a tiny, fierce and independent single mother of three. She and her children moved to Raleigh, North Carolina so she could pursue a career with North Carolina Department of Revenue, where she worked for 30 years until she retired.
She and her children later moved to Garner, North Carolina. While in Garner, Peggy, along with several sisters and brother, attended St. Andrews United Methodist Church. Her closest people were her sisters that she shared memories, dreams and secrets with and participated as a “partner in crime” on a few occasions.
Peggy was an avid reader and enjoyed various styles of music. She particularly enjoyed Neil Diamond. Her love of reading and music has been passed down to and embraced by her children.
She is survived by her two sons, Keith Adams (fiancé Alice Harp) and Jeff Adams (spouse Penny Adams); grandchildren, Misty Olive, Hannah Weisberg, Skylar Adams and Angie Adams (spouse of Brian Adams); brothers Jerry Norris (spouse Glenda) and Mike Norris (spouse Kay); sisters, Doris Dupree, Helen Kirksey (John); Brenda Johnson (spouse Gale), Janet Stephenson; as well as several great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
