Peggy Harris Allen

PEGGY HARRIS ALLEN August 28, 1928 – March 19, 2015 Chapel Hill - Peggy Harris Allen, 85, formerly of Goldsboro, died March 19, 2015 at Carolina Meadows in Chapel Hill. She was born in Roanoke, Va. to the late Dallas and Louella Harris. Peggy attended public schools in Roanoke and went on to graduate from Louis-Gale Hospital School of Nursing. In 1948 her class was sent to Dorothea Dix in Raleigh to affiliate in psychiatry. There she met and married the love of her life Jack Allen. They were married for 58 years before his death in 2006. In addition, Peggy was preceded in death by a sister, Polly Harris Hall. She was a member of First Free Will Baptist Church in Goldsboro. She is survived by her daughter Cindy and son-in-law Tom Cox; twin grandchildren, Patrick and Olivia Cox; one sister Mary H. Climie; and numerous much loved extended Allen family. Funeral services will be held 2:00 PM Monday, March23, 2015 in the chapel of McLaurin Funeral Home in Clayton with Reverend Jeff Allen officiating. Interment will be beside her husband at Powhatan Church Cemetery also in Clayton. Memorials may be made in Peggy’s memory to UNC Hospice, 1101 Weaver Dairy Road, Suite 200, Chapel Hill, NC 27514.
