Rita Marie Hawes, age 94, of Clayton, NC, and formerly of La Plata, MD died on March 11, 2025 at home surrounded by family. She was a beloved wife and dedicated mother, grandmother (known as 'bawbaw' ‘nonnie’ and 'gigi'), and friend to many. She enjoyed bowling, bingo, her trips to the casinos, and watching the Redskins and Nationals.
She was born on October 25, 1930 in Philadelphia, PA, and was the daughter of Salvator Pugliano and Maria DiGennaro Pugliano. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her beloved husband, Raymond Clifton Hawes, I; sisters Assunta "Susie" Triano, Josephine Menzano, Rose LaCava and Caroline Pugliano; brothers Michael, Louis, Domenic and Antonio Pugliano; and grandson Joseph Marcheggiani, III.
She is survived by her children Joseph Marcheggiani, Jr. and fiancé Cathy; Tamie Styles; Raymond Hawes, II; Louis Hawes; Lisa Ewing and husband James; and Denise Pierce and husband David; 18 grandchildren, 31 great-grandchildren and 8 great-great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
