Bob was born in Drexel Hill, PA and grew up in nearby Newtown Square, PA. After graduating from Marple Newton High School in 1961, he earned his bachelor’s degree in Animal Science at Penn State and his master’s degree in Dairy Science at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Bob was a proud US Navy veteran, serving on the USS Corry during the Vietnam War. He worked as an agricultural extension agent before owning and operating a dairy farm in Halifax, PA for almost twenty years. He then continued his work in agriculture at the U.S. Department of Agriculture Risk Management Agency in Pennsylvania and then North Carolina. He had deep knowledge of farming and loved being outside, working on his farm and taking care of his gardens and fruit trees, reading, and spending time with his family and friends, with a special place in his heart for his grandchildren. He enjoyed teaching his grandchildren about the farm and taking them for rides on his golf cart.
Mr. Beach is survived by his four children and 17 grandchildren: Robert Beach, III and his wife Rachel (Andrew, Ashley, Benjamin, Rebecca, Emily, Samuel, Matthew, Jacob, and Clara); Dallas Griswold and her husband Jim (Sarah, Maxwell, and Ryan), David Beach and his wife Kellee (Caden and Cabrie), and Lauren Wilkins (Sawyer, Silas, and Salem); two sisters: Phyllis Miller (husband Glenn Miller) and Denyse Keaveney (husband Robert Keaveney); as well as many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 51 years, Anne Lumpkin Beach, parents, Robert Henry Beach, Sr. and Mildred Doughten Beach, and granddaughter Susannah.
There will be a viewing at 6:00 PM on Sunday, September 26, 2021 at McLaurin Funeral Home located at 12830 US 70 Business Hwy W, Clayton NC 27520. A funeral service will be held Monday, September 27, 2021 at 12:00 PM at Eastern Carolina State Veterans Cemetery, 164 Longs Plant Rd, Goldsboro, NC.
