Robert "Bob" Earl Denton age 88, of Clayton, North Carolina went to be with his Lord and Savior on October 5, 2018. He was surrounded by his loving family at the time of passing. Bob was born on July 14, 1930 in Campbellsburg, Indiana to Louis and Hazel Denton.
Bob was a career US Marine. He proudly served in the US Marine Corps from 1947 until 1968. He took his basic Training at Paris Island, South Carolina. During his career, he was stationed at Camp LeJune, NC, Korea, California, Georgia, Virginia and Japan. Bob retired at Indianapolis, Indiana as a US Marine Recruiter. Bob served in Korea during the 1950 and 1951 Korean War and was at the Chosin Reservoir sometimes called "The Frozen Chosin" during that time. His Division, The 1st Marine Division fought for 14 days in minus 30 degree temperatures against 120,000 Chinese soldiers. While there, Bob was assigned to The USMC MotorPool. His job was to help truck in food services for the US Marines of the Chosin Reservoir. He retired as a US Marine Gunnery Sergeant.
Bob spent his retirement years being the most helpful neighbor and friend to anyone in his path. He always was ready to offer a helping hand to anyone in need. His passing is a great loss to his family, friends, and neighbors. Bob loved and was loved.
Bob is survived by his wife Joyce Denton, daughter Crystal Torres, David Brown, Donnie (Jenny) Brown, all of Clayton, NC, Dale (Paula) Brown of Henderson, NC, Danny (Linda) Denton of Jacksonville, FL, Gary (Lynette) Denton of Clinton, NC, 12 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren.
Arrangements are by McLaurin at Pinecrest of Clayton, Visitation will be Sunday, October 7, 2018 at 2:00 with funeral service to follow at 3:00p.m. Burial will follow at Pinecrest Memorial Park.
