October 22, 1960 – October 22, 2026
Russell Curtis Williams, age 66, passed away on October 22, 2026—his 66th birthday—after a courageous two-year battle with cancer.
He was born in Raleigh, NC where he grew up and lived there until 1986. After he met his future wife Sherry, he moved to Clayton, NC, and remained in Clayton until his death.
Russell leaves behind a lifetime of love and cherished memories, along with a family who will forever treasure the time they shared with him.
Above all, Russell was a devoted husband and family man. He shared 40 wonderful years of life and love with his beloved wife, Sherry L Stewart Williams including 38 years of marriage. Their journey together was built on companionship, commitment, and a love that will continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew them.
Russell was also a father in every way that truly matters. Although his daughter, Jessica Lynne Spring , was not his biological child, she was very much his own. He began raising her when she was just over one year old, helping shape her life and loving her as his daughter. The bond they shared was a testament to the truth that being a father is about so much more than biology; it is about showing up, being present, and loving a child as your own.
One of Russell’s greatest joys in life was his two grandchildren, Taylor Jean Belvin and Daniel James Belvin, who were truly the light of his life. They brought him a special happiness and a love that words can hardly express. The memories they made together will forever remain a treasured part of their lives.
Russell loved his church family as well. He was a member of Oak Grove Free Will Baptist Church in Elm City, North Carolina. He especially loved his minister, Mr. Chris Harris, and had made many special friends within the congregation.
Russell was preceded in death by his father, James Redford Williams (J.R.); his mother, Julia Story Williams; his oldest brother, Mark Wayne Williams; and his older sister, Terry Williams McGhee.
Though Russell’s passing leaves an immeasurable void in the hearts of those who loved him, his memory will live on through his wife, daughter, grandchildren, brother, James Stephen (Willie) Williams(Rosie), sister, Christy Williams Arnold(Michael), many nieces and nephews, church family, and all those whose lives he touched. He had a special bond with his wife's niece, Michelle Allen, who also had a cancer journey of her own. They shared many healing and helpful nighttime conversations. The love he gave, the family he helped build, and the memories he leaves behind will never be forgotten.
Russell will be deeply missed, forever loved, and always remembered.
His life was a gift, his love was a blessing, and his memory will live on forever.
A memorial service will be held at 2:00pm on Thursday, October 29, 2026, at McLaurin Funeral Home in Clayton. The family will receive friends from 1:00pm-2:00pm, just prior to the service. Inurnment will follow in Pinecrest Memorial Park after the service.
