He was born and raised in Clayton, NC, by his parents Benny and Debbe Langdon, and was a big brother to Hannah and Rachel. As a child Seth loved building and creating, and he developed his passion and skills through working alongside his Papa Penny.
Seth was always humble about his brilliance, but he was quick to solve any problems - in spelling bees, on math exams, with trivia facts, or in designing his Eagle Scout project. This knowledge and skillset served him well in preparing him for his career.
He earned his bachelor's degree in Construction Management from East Carolina University in 2003. Seth’s pride for his beloved Pirates never wavered, even in seasons where the score on the board may have been lower than his freshman year GPA.
His first job out of college was in Charlotte, NC, but he moved home shortly thereafter to create a life and family with his high school sweetheart, Nicole.
Seth continued his career in the construction field where he was successful at several positions before eventually finding his passion for inspections, and he was currently a Development Manager with the City of Raleigh. Seth was highly respected in his career, where he is described by his colleagues as caring, supportive, generous, knowledgeable, hilarious, and an amazing teammate. He took great pride in being a servant leader, and he excelled in inspiring and supporting his co-workers.
Seth and his wife Nicole met in 1995 at Clayton High School in a physical science class, and they created a beautiful life together on their farm in Wilson’s Mills. They have raised their three children Audrey Claire, Hayes Garrett, and Saydie Faith, in a supportive, active, loving home, alongside their family pets and farm animals… even chickens he secretly adored.
Seth had strong friendships, from both childhood and present, and he enjoyed entertaining with good music, food on the grill, fishing poles, and a deck of cards - utilizing skills he learned from playing games with his grandparents.
Seth was a magnet for others, and this was seen through his family life, professional life, and through his service at church and through missions. He grew up at Amelia Christian Church, and then he joined his wife at Bethesda Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon, as a drummer with the praise band, with the Men’s Ministry, and as a crowd favorite in the VBS skits. He was a facilitator for the Celebrate Recovery program there, where he found a support system with others through shared struggles, and a place of belonging.
He loved the meaningful life he created, but at times was not able to settle his inner chaos, which was often hidden to those around him. Seth will be remembered as a family man, a hard-working provider, and the life of the party. His family encourages you to reach out for help if you are struggling, to continue to show kindness to those around you every day, and to cherish every moment you have with those you love.
Seth is survived by his wife Nicole Wilson Langdon, and his three children Audrey, Hayes, and Saydie; his parents Benny and Debbe Langdon, his sisters Hannah Smith (Derrick) and Rachel Langdon (James); his father and mother-in-law Charles and Sue Wilson, his brother-in-law Charlie Wilson (Ashley); nieces and nephew Bentley Kate Smith, Scarlett Wilson, and Thomas Wilson; his Nana Maxine Penny, and his extended family of aunts, uncles, and cousins. Seth is preceded in death by his grandparents Rena and Walter Langdon and AC Penny.
In Seth’s memory, take a few extra minutes to check on someone you love who may be struggling - take them to lunch or for a coffee, or consider making a donation in Seth’s honor to a mission he supported, the Smithfield Rescue Mission at smithfieldrescue.org
