Tom (Tommy) Hall passed away on Saturday, August 14, 2021 after a brief illness. Tom was born to the late Thomas Dalton Hall, Sr. and Crettie Belle Hocutt Hall and spent the bulk of his formative years enjoying life at his grandparent's farm near Corinth-Holder. Besides his farming career, Tom spent time as a drummer in the Apex High School marching band. Later on, after a brief stint as a mobile ice cream vendor, Tom got into the auto body repair business with his father, a career that would last many years. Eventually Tom pitched out his can of body filler, hung up his paint gun and got into the insurance business where he would spend the rest of his "working man" days as an insurance adjuster specializing in heavy equipment losses and the occasional car or small truck. Tom was also a member of the Clayton Rescue Squad during its formation and early days.
Tom enjoyed a variety of hobbies including photography, tinkering, woodworking/crafting, building "stuff", bird watching, cutting grass at "the farm", building popsicle stick houses, fishing and playing bluegrass music. Along with playing bass, he may have the distinction of being the first bluegrass snare drummer. Another hobby he enjoyed, and at which he excelled, was trying to convince his twin sons to shave their beards. Of all these, fishing was his passion and he spent many hours talking about fishing and telling stories of his fishing adventures.
Tom is preceded in death by his wife of 30 years, June. He is survived by his twin sons Mark (Christy) of Clayton and Merle (Renee) of Pine Level as well as his granddaughter, the incomparable Mary Sandra Kelly (Chris) also of Pine Level.
Many thanks to his friends, co-workers, neighbors, pickers & grinners and fishing buddies who contributed to Tom having a good life. A very special THANK YOU is extended to Judy, Sara, Beth and Mary for the years of friendship and being great neighbors and adding more to Tom's life than can be imagined.
While flowers are welcome, contributions may also be made to the North Carolina Wildlife Endowment Fund at ncwildlife.org
Services for Tom will take place on Sunday, August 22, 2021 at McLaurin Funeral Home and will consist of a time of visitation from 2:00-3:00 at the funeral home immediately followed by a graveside service at Pinecrest Memorial Park at 3:00pm.
