Wayne was born in Clinton, Oklahoma, to Palma Wayne Littmann and Wilfred Carl Littmann. He was the oldest of four children and cherished his siblings: sisters Debby and Lisa, and his brother Kim. Wayne grew up in various Midwest states due to his father’s career with the USDA and attended over 20 schools throughout his youth. Wayne told countless stories about how he was always the new kid in school and how those experiences helped him develop the friendliness, adaptability, and resilience that became hallmarks of his character. Wayne attended Jefferson High School in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, where he served as senior class president and participated in football, track, and basketball.
After graduating from high school, Wayne attended the University of Oklahoma for two years before enlisting in the United States Marine Corps in July 1967. He served in Vietnam from 1970 to 1971, flying AH-1 Cobra helicopters in combat with Marine Light Attack Helicopter Squadron 367 ("Scarface"). During his military service, he was awarded the Air Medal (Bronze Star). After being honorably discharged as a Captain in 1973, Wayne completed his education, earning a bachelor's degree from the University of Oklahoma and an associate degree from Cape Fear Technical College.
Wayne spent much of his career in the nuclear power startup and pharmaceutical manufacturing industries before retiring from Novo Nordisk in 2017 after 20 years of dedicated service. He found joy in home improvement and landscaping projects, loved spending time outdoors, and took special pride in the beautiful flower gardens his wife lovingly cultivated. He will be remembered for his unwavering loyalty, strong work ethic, and the deep love he had for his family.
Wayne met the love of his life, Linda, in 1982 while they were both working at Cutter Laboratories in Clayton, North Carolina. As they often said, it was love at first sight. They were married on May 30, 1986, and shared 40 wonderful years of marriage filled with love, laughter, and unwavering devotion to one another.
Wayne was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Kim.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Linda; his sons, Randy (Christine) and Galen (Tara); his daughter, Zoe (Kyran); his grandchildren, Tyler, Lance, Barrett, and Renton; and his sisters, Debby and Lisa.
Those who knew Wayne will remember his determination, tenacity, and quiet strength. Though humble and unassuming, he formed deep and lasting friendships wherever life took him. His love for his family and friends was steadfast, and his loyalty never wavered. Many of his friends often said they felt an instant connection from the moment they met him, friendships that endured for a lifetime. Wayne's legacy lives on in the countless lives he touched and in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.
