Wiley Franklin Crumpler

Wiley Franklin Crumpler, 81, of Clayton, went to be with his Savior on Friday night, April 23rd at the Hospice House of Smithfield after a prolonged illness.

A private military graveside service will be conducted at the Military Honors section of Pinecrest Memorial Park.

He is survived by three children, nine grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, and two siblings. Wiley was a twenty-year veteran of the United States Navy, serving in places such as the Guadalcanal and the Suez Canal. He served with distinction and received various commendations during his tenure.

Wiley was a faithful church member for most of his adult life, serving the Lord in many capacities, including as a Sunday school teacher, deacon, bus worker, and youth director. He was most recently a member of Mount Calvary Baptist Church of Clayton for several years.

Wiley was known by many for his jolly nature and contagious laugh. He loved fishing, cooking, and gardening when he was able. Many folks have been the recipient of one of his delicious baked items. He had a loyal and generous nature and a love for life in general.

On line condolences may be made to the family at:

Because of his patriotic spirit and his love for his church, the family asks that in lieu of flowers, donations be made either to: The Wounded Warrior Project or Mount Calvary Baptist Church.

McLaurin Funeral Home is honored to be assisting the Crumpler family.

So sorry to hear about the passing of Franklin. I went to school with him, and we all remember about what a good person he was.
Very kind to everybody, and treated everybody with respect.
Had talked to him on the phone several times in the last years,
We always had a lot of good laughs over the phone. I knew he was having some health problems, but he was always thankful for each day, and how the Lord had blessed him.
Franklin, I know you are at peace now, and will be in no more pain.
Your classmate at Corinth- Holders .

Mr. Wiley always had a smile and his laugh was contagious as his obit says. I am Joan, but Mr. Wiley always called me Ms. JoJo which is my facebook name. I am also a member of Mt. Calvary Baptist Church and when Mr. Wiley's health allowed him to attend (pre-covid); I always got a hug! He was such a sweet, sweet man. As Mr. Wiley said "keep smiling and giving hugs" which I know he is now doing in Heaven! I will miss you, but I know you are really smiling and enjoying being with Jesus! RIP my friend and brother in Christ. You always made the world a little brighter!

Condolences to the family. I only knew Wiley from Facebook but he was very impressive. He had a lot of good things to say. I used to read his post every day....somehow I did not get his post for the last year. He was so wise. May his soul rest in peace.
