William Mara, 80, of Clayton, NC, formerly of Highland, NY passed away peacefully in his sleep. William was born on May 15, 1938 in New York City to the late James and Deborah Mara. He spent most of his young adult life in Staten Island, NY. William enlisted in the United States Air Force from 1956 to 1962. He then served in the Merchant Marines Coast Guard. On May 29th, 1961 in Lutterworth, England he married his wife of 56 years, Patricia Jean Pell, who passed away on February 9th, 2017. After living in Staten Island for several years, they moved to Highland, NY. William worked for Con Edison for over 30 years. William enjoyed hunting, fishing and bowling, but his true passion was playing golf. He was a member of the New Paltz Golf Club and on July 7th, 1991 he scored a Hole –In-One on hole #4. William is survived by three daughters, Jeanine Boland of Poughkeepsie, Kimberly (Dr. David) Drury of Park City, Utah and Tammy (Michael) Newman of Clayton, NC. He is also survived by 3 grand-daughters, Heather French, Cassandra Boland, both of Poughkeepsie and Taylor Newman of NC, 5 grandsons, Triston Newman of Germantown, Nicholas Newman of NC, Brayden, Nathan and Christopher Drury of Utah. Besides his parents and wife, Bill is also predeceased by a son-in-law, Thomas Boland. Memorial service and cremation will be private.
