

Mr. William James Spreitzer, Sr., 82, of Clayton died Wednesday, January 13, 2016 at SECU Hospice House in Smithfield. He was born May 27, 1933 in Berlin, NJ son of the late Joseph M. and Margaret M. Spreitzer. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Jean Hersey Spreitzer, a brother, Joseph W. Spreitzer, and a sister, Margaret Spreitzer Pajic. Mr. Spreitzer was in the Navy reserve for 8 years. He was a machinist the majority of his life and was also a master carpenter. He was truly a jack of all trades. He loved to play golf and after he married his wife Jean, they enjoyed spending the winters together in Florida and Hawaii. He was a past Commander of American Legion Post # 71. A graveside service will be held Sunday, January 17 at 2:00 P.M. in Pinecrest Memorial Park. The family will receive friends Sunday from 1:00 – 2:00 P.M. at McLaurin Funeral Home. He is survived by his five daughters, Joanne Lee and husband Terry, Suzanne Williams and husband Marty, Ruthanne Edwards and husband Steve, Marie Averitt, and Dianne Hersey and husband Tyrone, ten grandchildren, Terry Lee, Jr., Nicole Lee, Sara Call, Jennifer Haynes, Joe Williams, Ben Edwards, Hannah Vanos, Megan Farrell, Jillian Farrell, and Vanessa Hersey-Tart, and six great grandchildren, Riley and Emma Williams, Skylar Call, Charles and Henry Haynes, and Liam Hersey-Tart. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his name to SECU Hospice House in Smithfield at www.johnstonhealth.org or to www.nc.dav.org Arrangements are being handeled by McLaurin Funeral Home in Clayton.
