
Mr. Merat was born July 20, 1949, in Philipsburg, the son of Verden P. and Ruth (Jannot) Merat.
He was a graduate of St. Francis High School, Clearfield.
Mr. Merat worked for the U.S. Naval Research Lab, Washington DC.
He was Catholic by Faith.
Mr. Merat was a United States Marine Corps Veteran having served during the Vietnam Era.
In 2013 he was awarded the DON Meritorious Civilian Service Award for outstanding contributions in developing and implementing the plans to have the Midway Research Center provide signal generation services for various satellite program offices around the world and provide centralized management and control of their geographically dispersed sites by networking all sites remotely via the internet.
He was a life member of the Marine Corps League and the Frenchville VFW Leigey-Renaud Post No. 8386. He was also a member of the American Legion in Arlington, VA, the Philipsburg BPOE #1173 and the Mosquito Creek Sportsman’s Club.
Arthur is survived by five siblings; John Merat and his wife Lorrie of Bald Hill, Mark Merat and his wife Janice of Frenchville, Ann Rubly and her husband Robert of Clearfield, Teresa Gill and her husband Michael of Frenchville and Billi Jo Mills and her husband Matt of Osceola Mills and a number of nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews.
Mr. Merat was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters; Mary Kay and Kathleen Merat.
A Memorial Mass will be said at 11:00 AM on Saturday, June 2, 2018 at the St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church, Frenchville with Rev. David A. Perry, Jr. as celebrant. Interment will be in St. Mary Church Cemetery. Military Honors will be accorded by the Frenchville VFW Leigey Renaud Post No. 8386 Honor Guard.
