She was born on July 9, 1927, in La Jose, PA.
After graduating from the Clearfield Area High School in 1946, Betty attended
cosmetology school of the Adelle Allen School of Beauty class of 1947 to become a licensed beautician. After retiring to raise her family, she continued to use her
skills on relatives, neighbors and friends.
Betty was very active in the Clearfield Alliance Church where she was a member
for over 50 years and served as a Sunday school teacher, deaconess, VBS teacher
and youth leader. She loved teaching children about God’s love and for several
years taught Child Evangelism Good News Club at her home.
Betty was a homemaker and mother extraordinaire. She was well known for her
culinary and pastry skill. Her great delight was to spoil grandchildren and great grandchildren with homemade chocolate chip cookies.
Betty is survived by five children; Gary P. Shaffer and his wife Nadine, of
Cambridge Springs, PA, Gale L. Peters and her husband John of Clearfield,
Kathy Shaffer, of Clearfield, Mark S. Shaffer and his wife Janet, of Pittsburgh, PA
and Kevin J. Shaffer, of Clearfield, eight grandchildren; Matthew Paul Shaffer,
Laura Rausch, Andrew Peters, Scott Peters, Ryan Peters, Matthew Phillip Shaffer,
Alexander Shaffer and Emma Shaffer, nine great grandchildren; Henry and
William Shaffer, Anthony and Avery Rausch, Bennet and Kennedy Peters, Raegan
Peters, Jacob and Nicholas Peters, one sister, Joan Goodrow and her husband,
Ward, of Woodland and two sisters-in-law, Marie Shaffer of Salisbury, MD and
Josephine Shaffer, of Clearfield.
She was preceded in death by her parents; Clifford J. and Lousie E. (Yingling) Smay and her husband, Paul Alvin Shaffer whom she married on August 20, 1948 and who passed away on December 17, 2000,
Funeral Services will be held on Friday, December 7, 2012 at 2:30 P.M. at the Christian and Missionary Alliance Church, 56 Alliance Road, Clearfield, PA 16830
with the Dr. Duane White officiating. Interment will be in the Mt Joy Cemetery.
Friends will be received at the church on Friday, December 7, 2012 from 1:30 P.M. until the hour of services at 2:30 P.M.
