Born May 4, 1937 in Clearfield, on the family farm, she was the daughter of the late Howard and Hollis Elaine (Richner) Owens.
Cora graduated from Clearfield Area High School in 1955.
Cora always knew she wanted to attend college. As a senior in high school, she began working for Harbison Walker Refractory Machine Shop from 1955-1956, saving her money to pay for her secondary education. She then attended Airline School, becoming a ticket counter agent for Eastern Airlines and a secretary for the Eastern Airlines manager at Cleveland Hopkins Airport, Cleveland, OH from 1957-1965. Her time with the airlines afforded her the opportunity to travel throughout the United States, Canada, Mexico, and throughout Europe.
She received her B.S. in Education from Thiel College in 1971 and began working for the Clearfield School System while obtaining her M.S. in Education from Indiana University in 1975. She was employed by the school system for 15 years.
Cora was Christian by faith and participated in many missionary trips to Israel, India, South East Asia, Hong Kong, China, Haiti, Taiwan, Philippines, and Europe. She was a member of the Board of Directors for Shepherd’s Lambs Trips to Haiti from 1971-1986.
When Cora was not taking care of her parents or working, she enjoyed needlework and being outdoors to fish and hunt.
Cora is survived by numerous nieces and nephews. She was the last of her generation and was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Daniel G. Owens and Stanley B. Owens; and two sisters, Nancy Helen Fletcher and Olive Marie Martell.
