She was born October 15, 1931 in Clearfield, the daughter of Walter L. and Rachel (Shamp) McCormick.
She graduated from Clearfield High School.
Later employed for the former G.C. Murphy Company for over 35 years, Doris managed the hardware and toy departments at the Market Street location in Clearfield. Additionally, she would sometimes travel as part of a new store setup team which she enjoyed very much.
First and foremost, Doris was intensely committed to her family and friends. Holidays and birthdays were always special and included large family gatherings. To this day, annual Shamp Family reunions have been held on Labor Day Sunday for 65 years.
Routinely, Doris immersed herself in bible study as a member of the West Side United Methodist Church of Clearfield. She volunteered in the church kitchen often preparing her famous chicken and biscuits and candied sweet potatoes. Anyone who worked with her knew she was an excellent cook and “the sarge in charge” of the kitchen. Her willingness to help others led her to a church mission to help the victims of hurricane Katrina in 2005.
Futhermore, Doris was very creative excelling in ceramics, sewing, knitting, macramé, quilting and pretty muich anything she set her mind to do. She loved popular movies, music, dancing and had a keen eye for home decorating. In her youth, she played basketball, participated in roller skating dance exhibitions and was an excellent waterskier. She loved being outdoors in the sun particularly at the beach.
Doris is survived by her three children; Kim Petrone Bolam and her husband Lawrence of Irwin, PA, John P. Petrone of Pittsburgh, PA and Michael Petrone and his wife Patricia of Sanford, FL, six grandchildren, two great grandchildren and a sister, Donna M. Veihdeffer of Hyde.
