Born November 4, 1935, she was the daughter of William C. “Pete” Chase, II and Julia Boardman (Kerr)
Chase Boulton. She was a 1953 graduate of Clearfield Area High School, where she was class
valedictorian; a 1957 graduate of Goucher College, Towson, MD, where she was inducted into the Phi
Beta Kappa Honor Society and received her bachelor of arts in American Studies; and a proud graduate

In her 20s, Emily worked as a newspaper reporter for the Clearfield Progress and a newspaper in
Ambridge, PA; she also worked in various libraries at the University of Minnesota and Ohio State
University; and then devoted herself to raising her four children. She was married to her high school
classmate John Weaver from 1958 to 1987.
Throughout her life, Emily was an active community volunteer. She was a leader in the PTA at the
elementary school her children attended in Baton Rouge, LA, and spent many hours tutoring children
there. Following her return to Clearfield in 1988, she was an active member of several organizations and
served on the boards of the Clearfield County Public Library, the local chapter of AAUW, the Joseph &
Elizabeth Shaw Public Library, and the Clearfield County Historical Society.
Emily is survived by her four children, Deirdre Chase Weaver, Farmington, CT, Julia Kerr Weaver
(Michael McCloskey), Highspire, PA, William Frederick “Fred” Weaver, Clearfield, PA, and James
Alexander Weaver (Cynthia Greenleaf), Columbus, OH; her ex-husband, John Weaver, Baton Rouge, LA;
several cousins, including her beloved first cousin Ben Vaughan, whom she called her “brother from
another mother;” and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, Pete and Julia, Emily was predeceased by her stepfather, Harold J. Boulton;
her brother, Bill Chase, who died in July of 2022; and many beloved family pets.
