Born April 7, 1953 in the Clearfield Hospital, he was the son of the late Henry and Betty M. (Hale) Elensky.
A 1971 graduate of the Curwensville Joint High School celebrating a 50 year reunion last fall. Friends said that Gary was full of jokes that evening.
Gary began working at an early age of 12 for his uncle John Hale. Mowing, picking cherries, apples and grapes from the Hale orchard. He always said that being up on the hill with his uncle taught him hard work. After graduating he started working at Ames Department Store when Dick Coons of Curwensville was the Manager. After Ames he worked 24 years at Berg Electronics in Clearfield until the closure of the plant. He was a stamping supervisor and enjoyed his Berg family until his death. He retired from Mt. Savage Refractories in Curwensville at the age of 62.
On May 29, 1976 he married Janice (Shirey) Elensky by Pastor Thomas Young in the Woodland Main Street United Methodist Church, she survives. On May 29th they celebrated 46 years of marriage.
Also surviving is their daughter Kristin, grandson Dean and granddaughter Claire, all of Curwensville, three siblings; David W. Elensky of Altoona, Mona J. (John) Tomera of Massachusetts and Roger A. (Sue) Elensky of Curwensville, brothers and sisters-in-law; John W. (Sherry) Shirey of Mineral Springs and Stephen (Laurie) Shirey of Pleasant Gap, seven nieces and nephews and one great nephew.
The years he and Janice spent on Anderson Creek Hill goes without saying that life was blessed with neighbors Bob and Gladys Kline. Gary would look forward to helping Bob tend the gardens, keeping watch as the deer would pass thru.
Gary enjoyed time with his grandchildren, and over the years there were 8 golden retrievers to give love to with Holly and Max his current companions. Many knew Gary for his most cherished 1969 Dodge Dart Swinger. Dean and Claire would join him in Carlisle for the Mopar show in July or at a local car show, sometimes he would see that the Goldie’s made an appearance too, and then an ice cream cone for everyone on the way home. He would fine time to make sure the grass at his house was perfectly manicured to the right height, trimmed out and no dandelions were allowed. He enjoyed outside lighting, decorating for the holidays, with Christmas being a favorite.
Family and friends will be received on Tuesday, June 21, 2022 from Noon until the time of service at 2:00 PM at the Grace Lutheran Church, State Street, Curwensville. Pastor (Retired) Thomas A. Young and Pastor Richard Steurnagle will co-officiate.
