She was born on January 11, 1926 in Clearfield, the daughter of Dayton and Grace
(Nebgen) Shifter.
Mrs. Owens was affiliated with St. Francis Catholic Church, Clearfield.
She was a graduate of Clearfield St. Francis Catholic School. She was a former member of the Mt. Joy Grange and the Lawrence Township Fire Company #5 Auxiliary. She enjoyed being a homemaker, playing bingo, cooking and spending time with her family.
Mrs. Owens is survived by six children; Grace A. Swanson and her husband, Edwin, of Curwensville, Frances L. Lawhead and her husband, Randall, of Clearfield, Gloria J. Aarness and her husband, Bruce of, Tomah, WI, Edith M. Starr and her husband, Kenneth of Clearfield, Richard W. Owens of Clearfield and Harold L. Owens, of Clearfield, a daughter-in-law, Brenda G. (Lippart) Owens, of Clearfield, seventeen grandchildren, twenty two great grandchildren and five great great grandchildren, a brother, Clyde Shifter and his wife, Eleanor, of Clearfield, PA and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, George W. Owens whom she married on January 17, 1948 and who passed away on July 8, 2011, a son Edward J. Owens who passed away in August 2009, three brothers; Gordon, Doryce and John Shifter and four sisters; Geraldine Turner, Sylvia Green, Rosalie Koozer and Hazel Shifter.
Funeral services will be held at the Bennett and Houser Funeral Home, Inc., of Clearfield on Tuesday, January 8, 2013 at 11:00 A.M. with Msgr. H. Desmond McGee officiating. Interment will be in the Mt. Joy Cemetery.
Friends will be received at the funeral home on Monday, January 7, 2013 from
6-8:00 PM and on Tuesday from 10:00 A.M until the hour of the services.
