Born on May 11, 1922 in Bigler, PA; a son to the late Oscar Williams and Helen (Gearhart) Williams..
After graduating from Milton Hershey High School, Mr. Williams was drafted into the U.S. Army and transferred into the U.S. Air Force serving in WWII with the 8th Air Force in the European Theater. In 1983 Mr. Williams was employed at Harbison Walker Refractories and retired after 38 years of service.
He was a member of the West Side United Methodist Church in Clearfield where he served as Trustee and on the Administrative Board.
He was a member of the United Methodist Men, member and former President of Clearfield Volunteer Fire Department, former member and President of Clearfield Fair & Park Board, member and former President of Third Ward Hose Co., and historian.
Additionally, Mr. Williams was a member of the Clearfield County Volunteer Fireman’s Association, on the board for the Milton Hershey School Alumni Association, member of the Clearfield Lions Club, member of the John Lewis Shade Post #6 American Legion, former member of the Clearfield Borough Council and Grandview Gold Club. He was a lifelong member of the L.O.O.M. #97, Old Town Road Sportsman’s Association.
Survivors include three grandchildren: Cindy Poole of Clearfield, Patty Kline of Sinking Springs, PA, and Robert Williams of Northeast MD; six great-grandchildren: Zoe, John Jr., and Desiree Poole, Alex Kline, Merric and Raylynn Williams; and a special friend, Margaret Daub.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his loving wife, Twila W. (Wynn) Williams, whom he married on May 2, 1947 and who passed away on October 8, 2007; son, John Daniel Williams; and brothers, Clair and Robert Williams, and a sister, Ethel Flemming.
Funeral services will be held at Bennett & Houser Funeral Home, Inc. on Monday, November 19, 2018 at 11 am with Pastor Rev. Joleen A. Willis officiating. Burial will be in Crown Crest Memorial Park.
Friends are invited to the funeral home on Sunday, November 18, 2018 from 2-4 and 6-8 pm at the funeral home and a firemen tribute service at 6 pm.. An additional hour of viewing will be held on Monday from 10 am until the hour of services.
