

Woodland, passed away on Wednesday, February 21, 2024, at Ridgeview Elder Care.
Born on February 13, 1938, in Philipsburg, to the late Clyde C. & Olive V. (Flegal) Fye.
He was a 1956 graduate of Clearfield Area High School, and a 1959 graduate of Williamsport Technical College, now the Pennsylvania College of Technology, in Williamsport, PA.
Upon graduation Ron worked for Central Penn Typewriter of Clearfield & DuBois, he later worked for the Clearfield Area School District for 33 years until his retirement. He also worked as the Bradford Township Wage Tax Collector and served on the Woodland Bigler Area Water Authority.
Ron was a charter/life member of the B.J.W Fire Company, where he served as President, Treasurer, and Captain of the Fire Police.
He had attended Lake Street and Salem United Methodist Churches.
Ron dearly loved being involved with boy scouts both as a boy and as an adult. He served as an assistant scoutmaster & scoutmaster of Troop 18 of Woodland. Ron received the Silver Beaver Award & was a Vigil member of the Ah-tic Lodge 139 Bucktail Council. For many years you could ask Ron, where are you going on vacation this summer, his response would be; "I'm taking the scouts to Camp Mountain Run, or I'm taking them canoeing down the river or up to Maine." He loved canoeing and spent many hours and miles on the Susquehanna River. He canoed the entire length of the Susquehanna from Cherry Tree, PA to the Chesapeake Bay as well as the Matagamon Boy Scout High Adventure Base in Maine.
He loved the West Branch so much that he wrote a book called "From a Dream to a Reality."
He was very proud to be a member, alongside his son, Den, of the 1976 Bicentennial Timber Raft, that went from Millers Landing to Lock Haven. He always said, "I've went on a lot of trips on the West Branch, but I'll remember this one until I die."
Ron operated the River Rat Canoe Rental & Sales for many years, he hosted and guided countless scout troops, church groups and individuals on canoe trips.
Ron also had a love for the history of the Civil War and traveled to many battlefields such as Gettysburg, PA, Antietam, MD, and Manassas, VA amongst many others. He enjoyed spending time outdoors, ice fishing, and being with family and friends at Central Hunting Club, Boiling Springs Hunting Camp and Camp Grizzly.
Ron is survived by his three children; Dennis J. (Val) of Bigler, Connie Rose (Jim) Spencer of Clearfield, Sidney G. (Pam) of Woodland. Seven grandchildren, Lori (John) Skebo, Cody (Lacey) Fye, Jimmy (Sarah), Brianna & Ryan Spencer, Ben & Kate Fye. Three Great Grandchildren, Grant & Grace Fye, & Beau Spencer, as well as several nieces and nephews.
Ron was the last of his generation and was proceeded in death by his parents, an infant brother, a sister, Delores (Clarence) McBride of West Decatur, & brother, Leymone of Pleasant Gap.
Friends & Family will be received at Bennett Houser Funeral Home, Inc. Clearfield, on Saturday, March 2, 2024, from 3 pm to 6 pm. Funeral services will follow the viewing immediately at 6 pm, with Charlie Jones officiating. Interment will be in the Bradford Cemetery, Woodland, PA.
