Seth T. McCracken, 93, of Kerrmoor, passed away peacefully at home on Friday, January 8, 2021.
Born March 8, 1927 in Kerrmoor, he was the son of Lewis L. McCracken and Inez H. Witherite McCracken.
On February 18, 1950, he married his beloved wife Ella Witherow, who preceded him in death on October 11, 2020. Surviving are two children who will miss him greatly; Duane T. McCracken and his wife Wendy of Curwensville, and Teresa J. Edwards and her husband David of Jefferson, MD. Also surviving are two grandsons who were very dear to him; Zachary McCracken and Nathan Edwards; and one brother, Raymond McCracken; and three sisters, Jean Shaffer, Jo Sparks, and Shirley Wilson.
Along with his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Harry McCracken; and two sisters, Blanche Fink and Julia Cofer.
At age 14 he was employed by NY Central Railroad followed by B & O Railroad, and then in the coal strip mining business until 1952. In 1952 Seth enlisted in the Air Force. After training he was stationed at Peron Air Force Base in Texas, then in 1953 he was stationed at the Air Force Base in Hamilton, Bermuda until 1955 with his wife.
After returning to the states in 1955, Seth and Ella went to Flagstaff, AZ where he worked for the Lost Mine Company mining manganese. After returning to Pennsylvania he resumed working in the field of coal strip mining until his retirement in 1993. In 1957, he and his wife built their home in Kerrmoor.
He was a lifelong member of Fruit Hill Presbyterian Church. At Fruit Hill he was active on session and was a member of the Cemetery Committee from 1967 until his death.
Through the years, he travelled across the country with his wife and family in their RV to visit relatives and see many sites across the U.S. He truly enjoyed, and felt great pride in, mowing and maintaining his lawn up until the summer of 2020. Gardening was something he also greatly enjoyed doing with his wife, and reaping the benefits of the garden.
Funeral services will be private and held at the convenience of the immediate family at the Bennett and Houser Funeral Home, Inc., of Clearfield, with Lay Commissioned Pastor Leanne M. Peters officiating. Interment will be in Fruit Hill Cemetery.
