Sylvia Mitchell

Born on January 5, 1946 in Niagra Falls, NY she was the daughter of William Ali and Calista Doreen (Gardner) Johnston.

She attended Curwensville High School and graduated with the Class of 1963. Her chosen career was that of an Executive Secretary and she was a vital addition to Stauffer’s of Kissel Hill in Lititz. Sylvia was also a parishioner of St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church, Clearfield. Although all these things, above all else she was a devoted wife, loving mother and irreplaceable friend.

Sylvia married Louis J. Mitchell in St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church in 1964 and together raised two sons, Louis and Greg.

She had many interests, including the simple joys of gardening, reading and writing poetry, games, and challenging puzzles. She always had time for family and friends and her door was always open.

Sylvia is survived by her husband, Louis J. Mitchell, Sr. of Clearfield; sons, Louis J. Mitchell, Jr. of Lancaster and Greg Mitchell of Las Vegas, NV; four grandchildren; three brothers, John Johnston (Barbara), Lumber City, PA, Robert Johnston (Cheryl), Clearfield, PA, Mark Johnston (Diane), West Decatur, PA and one sister, Phyllis Addleman (Charles), Clearfield; one brother-in-law, Thomas Harris, and numerous nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her parents, infant daughter, Michelle; one brother, James, one sister, Doreen Harris, and one sister-in-law, Joyce Johnston.

Friends will be received at the Bennett & Houser Funeral Home, Inc., 312 E Locust St. Clearfield, PA 16830 on Saturday, March 9 from 11 AM until the time of services at 1 PM. Deacon Bob Wilson will be the officiant.

Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery.
