Mr. Betts was born December 18, 1940, the son of William I. Betts, Jr. and Margaret (Shively) Betts both of whom preceded him in death as well as an infant sister, Margaret.
He is survived by a sister, Rhonda Betts Halford and her husband, Thomas of Lincolnshire, Illinois as well as several nieces and nephews.
Mr. Betts spent his younger years in Clearfield, graduating from Clearfield Area High School in the class of 1958.
He worked as a copy editor at Doubleday for much of thirty of thirty-nine years both in-house and freelance.
Mr. Betts was a lover of New York City and had a large collection of New York City books, but kept his collection down to two hundred items.
There will be no public visitation. A private memorial service will be held at the convenience of the family.
