Alexander Michael Kaptzan, passed away suddenly on May 21, 2020 at the age of 52. He is survived by his wife, Ivette; two sons, Anthony, 21 and Andrew, 18; his mother, Patricia Kaptzan; his sister, Irene Erbaugh and her husband, Daniel; his sister, Carol Eisman and her husband, Mike; his nieces and nephews, Christina Ensworth, Jennifer Ensworth, Francis Ensworth, Catherine Ensworth, David Ensworth, Sara Eisman and Nicholas Eisman. Alex was born in Mexico City. He grew up in Miami where he attended Palmetto High School and graduated from Florida International University.
After being hired by the Doral Country Club, he met and married his beloved wife, Ivette. The hospitality industry drew him to Tampa. These were his people and he loved celebrating this city with them. He never met a stranger; everyone who met him loved him.
Family meant the world to Alex; they were his purpose in life. He was a dedicated father to his boys and participated in all their activities. He and Ivette were partners in their beautiful shared life. He had a large extended family close by. Traveling the world with them was the gelato on the cake. His father, Tony introduced him to the world of fishing. Years later, Alex did the same with his son, Andrew. A boat ride, a dock to drop a line off of, a sunset to close the day. Perfection to him. He was a connoisseur of music. Name the song, he’d tell you the performer and the album it was on. Alex instilled the love and knowledge of classic rock in his son, Anthony, who became a skilled guitarist. Cycling cleared his mind and fueled his body. So many miles listening to his music. He loved long distance riding and participated in the MS 150 every year with his brother-in-law and best friend, Mike. Alex loved his orchid garden. Some of his orchids, he inherited from his father and are more than 25 years old. As they bloomed, he would move them to the front porch where all the world could enjoy them. A recent highlight of his life was meeting Barack Obama and telling him they shared the same birthday, August 4th.
We lost our dearest Alex too soon, but our love for him will never end. Rest easy, sweet Alex.
