Alka has made great memories with her family and friends. I knew Alka through our daughters being friends. She was always a great host and full of laughter, fun and sarcasm. She loved her kids and their spouses so much. Remember all the good times you had with her. She will be greatly missed. Rest in peace Alka.

Will miss you forever! I met you first time when you came to your Mama’s house (my dad) in Kolkata, India. Then I met you many times in Florida… I have fond memories of yours full of laughter and fun times! Will miss you big sister.

She made me laugh. She was so generous. She loved our Jane. Our last visit was out by the pool and she kept us so entertained with her joy and laughter. This Christmas she thought you two got her two Pilates reformers and she gave me one. We were halfway through putting it together and realized there were two boxes for one machine. We laughed so much about that.
She loved her family dearly … so very much. I will forever remember your Mom and her kindness.

I knew Alka in dental school. She was popular and moved among many groups, but our group was four people: me, an American kid from Florida; Maina, a Russian girl from the Soviet Union; Clarence, an asian guy from Hawaii; and Alka, a young Indian woman from Chicago.

I liked to think of us as the United Colors of Benetton kids. We studied and hung out (sadly not in that order), explored Chicago, and worked to become dentists while we slowly turned into adults. In your twenties, before you’ve built your fences, the people you meet have a lasting impact. You carry them with you your entire life, and they continue to hold a significance far greater than their physical presence.

When I heard that Alka had passed, I was flooded with memories of that time. I remember us asking her to teach us dirty words in Hindi, only to learn later from her brothers that they were wrong. I’m still not sure whether that reflected her command of the language or because she was too good to further corrupt our immature minds. I remember her bravely, and somewhat naively, allowing me to do fillings on her so I could meet my graduation requirements. I remember her trying to be a tough Chicago girl when, in reality, she was just as young and unsure as the rest of us.

Along with these memories come regrets. I regret that I didn’t attend her wedding because I thought I had a million more important things to do. I regret that I didn’t make more of an effort to see her when I was in the area visiting family. But most of all, I regret that it took an event like this to make me realize I have a million things less important than paying tribute to my old friend and hoping she hears my words and sees my tears.

I love you, Alka, wherever you are, whatever you’re doing. Whether you are resting in peace, enjoying an eternity in Heaven, or preparing for your next life on this earth, I don’t know if we’ll meet again. But I do know you will live on within me and within all the people you touched.

I first met Alka in 1992, we were both newly qualified/soon to be qualified dentists and that gave us a common bond. We clicked straight away and spent most of our time together in fits of giggles. Whenever we got a chance to meet we always shared a good laugh. My husband and I still pronounce "Grosvenor" as "gross-ven-yurr" from a conversation we had many many moons ago. Alka was warm, funny and very loving. I shall miss her a lot and send my heartfelt condolences to everyone who was lucky enough to have loved her.

Alka, you’re part of my heart. I’ll always miss you, dear friend. We will be together again. Jane

I am truly heartbroken to hear of her passing. Being her dental school classmate was a gift. I will remember her vibrant spirit and the joy she brought to everyone around her. Alka was a bright, kind, and full-of-life person. I will always hold our memories close to heart. She will be deeply missed and never forgotten.

My thoughts are with her family during this incredibly difficult time.
