92, of Clearwater, passed away June 18th at home with family around him. He was married to Dolores Fischer for 48 years; she preceded him in death December 21, 2005. He’d been retired from Delco products (Rochester, NY) for 38 years. His works were many. As a young man, he boxed as a welterweight for the Elks Club in his hometown of Rochester. He served his great country as a land Naval Gunner and Helmsman on the SS Hambleton and was involved in two invasions one being that of Normandy June 6, 1944. Prior to the invasion, the mighty “H” was so severely damaged it was towed into Casablanca for repairs. There, a 40 foot section was removed from the center hull and welded back together and sent back into battle/ He was 18 years old at that time and served two and a half years of active duty before his discharge. As a magician, he had the pleasure of shaking Harry Houdini’s hand at the annual magician’s convention in California. He owned and operated his own sawmill in the foothills of the Adirondack Mountains producing rolling pins for everyone’s kitchen. From his own parking garage in downtown Rochester, then onto owning the Kendall Inn and bowling alley in Kendall, NY with his young bride and newborn son (Eric). He enjoyed fishing, crabbing, and shrimping with his sons and brother, Earl Fischer (predeceased May 16, 2013). He loved the outdoors, barbecue on the grill, and a good home cooked meal. He attended St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Church in Clearwater, FL and was a devoted catholic. Arthur is survived by his sons, Eric J Fischer (Clearwater, FL), Gregory J Fischer (Ruskin, FL); daughter, Pamela Fischer Lewellyn (Dunedin, FL); and nieces, Christine Fischer (Palm Harbor, FL), Susan and Tammy Fischer (Buffalo, NY). His living angel Sr Nancy Shively Poor Clare sisters (Travelers Rest, SC), Karen Shively (Sebring, FL). His first cousins, the Pappert’s of California: Stephen, David, Edward, Diane, and Tom Squillaro, RT after Artie, Rose Marie Lambert and Theresa Pappert. The Fischers of New Jersey: Betty, Nancy, Joanna Fischer Critelli, Bill Jr., and Robert Fischer, plus many great nieces and nephews. Services are at St. Michael the Archangel, 2281 State Rd 580, Clearwater, FL July 21, at 10am. Burial to immediately follow at Sylvan Abbey Memorial Park, 2860 Sunset Point Rd, Clearwater, FL 33759.
