Barbara Lindores Stewart Glanz

Barbara Lindores Stewart (Sinram) (Glanz) age 77 of Dunedin, Florida passed away peacefully on August 19, 2026. She was a cherished wife, mother, grandmother, and friend, and her presence will be deeply missed. A Celebration of Life memorial service will be held October 23, 2026 at Sylvan Abbey Funeral Home in Clearwater, FL. Donations can be made on Barbara’s behalf to Eastern Long Island Audubon Society, East Quogue, NY; or the Suncoast Animal League, Palm Harbor, FL.

A resident of Dunedin for 10 years, Barbara previously resided on Long Island, NY in Stony Brook, Southampton and Bayport. Barbara is the daughter of Colonel James Stewart (New York 7th Regiment) and Helen Wyckoff Stewart. Barbara was born on April 20, 1949 in Bronx, NY. She graduated from Mineola High School and attended SUNY Cortland where she was a member of Nu Sigma Chi and graduated in 1971. Later she earned a Masters degree from Dowling College.

As a young mother Barbara taught her children compassion and empathy by rescuing every lost dog, injured wildlife and any creature in need of help or care. Barbara loved cats and often had several. She was a dedicated cheerleader at all school sports and youth events; Barbara and the other mothers were known as the “booster babes.” She encouraged her children to “follow their heart” which resulted in them establishing lives in Idaho and Montana. Barbara found much joy staying in touch with friends and family, often from afar, and being involved with their lives, whether friends back on Long Island or relatives in Scotland. People commented on “her joyful spirit,” her “wonderful sense of humor,” and how much they enjoyed spending time with her. Friends described her as “inquisitive and always interested in what others are doing and helping others out. Just a delightful woman!”

Barbara taught school for 20 years at the Riverhead School District and taught graduate education courses at Dowling College on Long Island. In Riverhead she worked as an English teacher, a reading teacher and high school yearbook editor. It was here that she met her second husband Erich Glanz, they were married in 2002 in Whitefish, Montana.

Barbara enjoyed a variety of life activities including volunteering at the Iditarod sled dog race in Anchorage, Alaska; marching in the Edinburgh, Scotland Hogmanay parade carrying a flaming torch on New Years Eve; sailboat racing aboard Wave Function in Sag Harbor, NY; hiking in the Many Glacier district of Glacier National Park; canoeing the Teton River while watching moose in Driggs, Idaho; exploring the Bourgogne vineyards outside of Dijon, France; looking for Black-throated Blue Warblers in Cape May, NJ; and watching her grandson Syrus play middle school football in Kalispell, Montana.

Predeceased by her first husband Bryan W. Sinram in December of 2024, Barbara is survived by her husband Erich C. Glanz, sister Virginia G. Mirabelli of Stonybrook, NY; daughter Brigid S. Sinram (and husband Jerry Riegel) of Driggs, Idaho; and son Bryan S. Sinram and grandson Syrus W. Sinram of Kalispell, MT. She is greatly missed by the family of Erich Glanz including Andrew, Liza and grandson Edward Glanz of Clearwater, FL; and Emilie Glanz and granddaughter Bailey Nobles of Salamanca , NY.

We will see her in the birds soaring overhead and hear her voice in the bird calls she loved.
