With hearts full of cherished memories, we announce the peaceful passing of Bertha (BJ) Blair Baker on June 20, 2026, at Suncoast Empath Hospice Care in Palm Harbor, Florida. Born on October 7, 1938, in Danville, Illinois, BJ was a beacon of love and warmth to all who had the privilege of knowing her.
BJ was the beloved daughter of Vincent Anthony Blair and Marguerite Murphy Blair, who instilled in her the values of kindness and compassion that she carried throughout her life. She was predeceased by her parents, her dear sister, Edythe Blair Taylor, and her devoted husband, Don Baker, with whom she shared a beautiful life in Clearwater, Florida.
BJ’s journey began in Danville, Illinois where she attended St. Patrick’s Grade School and Schlarman High School. Her career was marked by dedication and versatility, starting with her work at the Federal Bureau of Investigation, and later at Illinois Bell. She thrived in her role managing a hotel in Clearwater Beach, Florida, and concluded her professional journal with a rewarding 31-year tenure as a Trade Practice Specialist with the Better Business Bureau of West Florida.
A woman of deep faith, BJ was a cherished member of her church community, where she found fellowship and a place to share her generous spirit. Her great personality, kindness, and unwavering love for her family made her a treasured friend and confidante to many.
BJ is survived by her loving children: Blair Leibach (Charlene) of Mount Juliet, Tennessee, Barbara Jo Leibach (Jennifer Weyant) of Safety Harbor, Florida and Brian Jay Leibach of St. Petersburg, Florida. She also is survived by her sister, Mary Blair Darling (Floyd) of Homosassa, Florida, her cherished grandchildren, Blake Leibach, Benjamin Leibach, Katie Jo Bustov, Scotty Weyant, Tina Weyant, and her adored great-grandchildren. She also leaves behind her nieces: Maureen Cattani, Kelly Bland, Mary Tracy Steier, Carolyn Sullivan and Kristine Schmelter, along with her nephews, Gregory Taylor and Carl Thorndyke. Her loss will also be felt by her numerous cousins, close friends, and a community that will forever hold her in their hearts.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations to Suncoast Empath Hospice of Palm Harbor, Florida, in gratitude for the compassionate care provided during BJ’s final days. Donations can be made through their website.
