March 9, 1935November 19, 2021

HEIFETZ, Carl Louis of Tampa, Florida passed away on November 19, 2021. He was 86. Carl was born in 1935 in Somerville, New Jersey to parents Samuel and Frances Heifetz (nee Potter). He was raised in Aberdeen and Baltimore, Maryland.

Carl was predeceased by his parents, brother Paul, and sister Ruth Stickel. He is survived by the love of his life, his wife Sandie Feld Heifetz, daughter Jodee Heifetz Buckley of New Port Richey, Florida and son Terry Heifetz of Muncie, Indiana. Also, he leaves cousins and close friends Lisa and Stuart Golub of Land O Lakes, Florida and beloved nieces and nephews.

Carl and Sandie met on a blind date and were married for 62 years. They lived in Maryland, Michigan and Florida. Carl had a passion for science and received his pharmacy degree and Ph.D. in microbiology from the University of Maryland. This led to his career in Michigan, working for 28 years for Parke-Davis and Warner Lambert, now part of Pfizer. He eventually became director of infectious disease research development. After retirement in Florida, he started his own consulting business, Microdoc.

He was a man of great integrity and morality. Carl was a renaissance man, having varied interests, such as Kiwanis Club, Sherlock Holmes, Star Trek and other science fiction. He combined his love of science and Sherlock Holmes to write several published books and stories. He loved to sing and even wrote a recorded song, “Road Kill Stew,” a country music parody.

A private graveside service was held at Sylvan-Abbey Memorial Park in Clearwater, Florida. Rabbi Arthur Baseman officiated. The family suggests memorials to your choice of Hospice.
