Mrs. Celine Breslin (nee McNelis), age 90, of Cape Coral, FL, formerly of Co. Donegal, Ireland, Brooklyn, NY, Oceanside, NY, Boynton Beach, FL, Clearwater, FL and Palm Harbor, FL passed away on Tuesday, October 20, 2020 in Bonita Springs, FL.
Celine was born in Ardara, Co. Donegal, Ireland, and immigrated to the Bronx, NY when she was just 18 when she met her loving husband of 60 years, Connell H. Breslin of Brooklyn, NY at a St. Patrick’s Day dance. Celine and Connell lived in Brooklyn, NY before relocating to Oceanside, Long Island, NY in 1958. They had five children, thirteen grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren. They spent most Friday evening’s bowling, Saturday nights dancing at the Irish Pub in Williston Park, NY, and Sunday morning attending church at St. Christopher’s in Baldwin, NY, and then stopping for rolls at the Five Star Bakery on the way home. Celine went on to open and operate Celine’s Real Estate in Oceanside and Freeport, NY before retiring to Florida with Connell, where they enjoyed many years of golf, bowling, and cruising together.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Alice and Patrick McNelis of Meenavalley, Co. Donegal, Ireland; siblings, Andrew McNelis, Mara Rooney, Patrick McNelis, Charles McNelis, Winifred McLaughlin, James McNelis, Alice McGuinness, Bridget Keegan, Evelyn McHugh, Eamon McNelis; son-in-law, Donald C. LeCompte, grandchildren, Kelly Breslin (infant) and Thomas Breslin (QM3 Surface Warfare Specialist, U.S. Navy).
She is survived by children, James (Eileen) Breslin of Boynton Beach, FL, Kevin (Linda) Breslin of Clearwater, FL, Patricia LeCompte of Riverview, FL, Joan (Frank) Capo of Cape Coral, FL and Celine (Frank) Pastore of Palm Harbor, FL; grandchildren, Jennifer, Eamon, Lauren (Sean), Catherine (John), Shane, Bryce, Nicole (Maxime), Anthony, Connor, Delaney and Donald; great-grandchildren, Braden and Una; brothers, Bernard McNelis, Franco McNelis, Peter McNelis and Matthew McNelis, brother-in-law, Packy McHugh; sisters-in-laws, Dolly, Hazel, Kathleen, Noreen, Anne, Sheila, Grainne McNelis and Jerilyn Breslin.
A visitation and celebration of life for Celine will be held Monday, October 26, 2020 from 4:00-8:00 pm at Sylvan Abbey Funeral Home, 2853 Sunset Point Rd., Clearwater, Florida 33759.
A funeral service will occur Tuesday, October 27, 2020 from 11:00 am - 12:00 pm at St. Michael the Archangel, 2281 State Rd. 580, Clearwater, Florida 33763. A committal service and burial will occur Tuesday, October 27, 2020 from 12:15 - 12:30 pm at Sylvan Abbey Memorial Park, 2860 Sunset Point Rd., Clearwater, Florida 33759.
