Charles went to high school at West End High School in Birmingham, Alabama. He was on the track team. He graduated May 1950. After that, he went into the Army when the war was still going on. In the Army. He was in the Automotive Maintenance Group. He graduated in the class of 1951, with his platoon. After that, he was sent to France. When he was in France. He was able to travel around and take a lot of pictures of the Monuments, The French Cemetery and Normandy Cemetery and The Eiffel Tower. When he was there. He had a chance to go snow skiing and I am sure he had a lot of fun skiing down the hills. There is a picture of him in the snow on a hill skiing, I, his son Larry, only posted a few pictures that he took in France and he had a lot of them, in black and white. All of the spelling was in French. Really, you can't even read the signs. He probably had a hard time getting around. Anyway, the war ended and he never saw live action. I guess he felt good about that. When he got back to the USA in 1960, he got out of the Army. Then he started studying to become a plumber in Alabama. After he study for a while. He took the test and passed and he became a plumber for the state of Alabama. He meant Nell and they started dating. Then they fell in love and got married. Charles had three sisters and one older brother. Their names were Frida, Norma, Jackie and Wayne, a good size family. They had their 1st child in 1962, which was me, Larry, 3 years later. They had their 2nd child in 1965, which was Joy, my sister. They lived in Alabama, Till 1968. Then they moved to Clearwater, Florida. Then they join the Calvary Baptist Church. Were they made new friends and enjoyed life. Charles was a religious man, and he believed in Jesus Christ. That Jesus Christ was our Lord and Savior. He went to church every Sunday. After living down here for years. Charles and Nell like to go to the beach, sit on a lawn chair and taken all the sites in looking out into the Gulf of Mexico. Going down to Fort DeSoto, walking around the old fort, and they had a small train with small cars you can get on and they would ride you around the park on the train. An sitting on the beach looking at the Skyway Bridge and all the big ships, going in an coming out of the Port of Tampa. It was really nice. They like going to Philippe Park. Walking around all the trials, looking out to Tampa Bay and grilling out at the shelters in the park. There are a lot more parks in the area. They went to all of them. Over time, and they enjoyed it very much. They always had family, down from Alabama. They would come down on vacation and stay with us. Nell and Charles really liked it when they came down to visit. They always had a good time showing them around the area. Life was good. Then years later Joy meant Ed and they got married in 1985 on Valentine's Day. She was 19 when she got married. Charles was happy he got to walk my sister or his daughter, Joy, down the aisle at the wedding and it was a good time, too. Then Joy was in a fatal car accident and died on February 8, 1986 that was 6 days shy of her 1st year wedding anniversary on Valentine's Day. That was a bad day, and everybody was heartbroken. Charles and Nell still went to church every Sunday for years and I believe Jesus Christ gave them the strength to carry on. Nell was getting older and couldn't make it to church like she used to. But she would turn on the TV, and watch all the church services. She liked. When talking to people as they were leaving. She would always say, I'll be praying for you. You always felt better after hearing that. Then she had a stroke and was paralyzed on her left side, and after that, it wasn't to long and she passed away at the age of 93 on August 7, 2020. Charles and Nell was married, little over 60 years together. It was hard for Charles, after that. Charles was a good dad to me for my life. We always didn't agree on everything, but we always got along and talked about lots of things, through life. Charles keep going to church for long as he could. He hurt his back and he had to stopped going to church. Then he started watching church services on TV to, just like Nell did. As he got older, his eyesight wasn't as good as it used to be, and he had to stop driving at 91. He did pretty good to still be able to drive till the age of 91. After that, I would take him to all of his doctors appointments. I work 2nd shift so, I'd be free in the morning, to be able to take him to his doctors appointments. Did that for years. Later on he had a bad heart valve. Charles having a bad heart valve. He still lasted 3 years with it, I think the doctors were surprise he was lasting as long as he did, but after he turned 94 a few months in, his heart valve was giving him more problems. After going to the hospital a couple of times. I had to quit work to take care of him. Now he is in hospice care at home and the doctors do not know how long he has, they can not say. I said, maybe he will make it to his birthday. This was in the beginning of March, like the 3rd or 4th and his birthday was March 30. But when I said that, the doctors looked at me like it was not going to happen without saying anything. But Charles was tough and lasted to his birthday on March 30, 2026 and turned 95 years old. Then he kept on going on through April and then through May. Towards the end, I told him it is time to go to be with Nell and Joy in heaven. I know you really missing Nell and you will be happy in Heaven with her, back together again. After being a part for years. Then, shortly after that on June 2, 2026 he passed away. I will miss him. He always helped me out. I will miss talking to him. Bye DAD, you're son,
Larry.
