Charles Short and Dorothy Gronlund were my introduction to opera when he was organist at Davis Islands Community Church. I saw him a few times at Immanuel Lutheran Church as well. I greatly miss the two wonderful musicians who had a huge impact on my life! I love you Charles

Charles was a wonderful organist and choir director.  We are grateful that he touched our  lives with his gifted  musical talent.  He was patient with us and taught us how to sing with expression and feeling.  We will miss him, but know he will be praising the Lord with his music in heaven.  I was blessed along with my family and friends to have him as a choir director.  It was amazing that he could play the organ and direct us at the same time.  He was also a great joy to have at our choir parties as well.

Sending my condolences to those who loved Charles Short. He was a cousin that I wish I'd known a lot better. I would love to see any pictures or hear any stories about his life. I got the chance to talk with him a bit at the celebration of life for my Aunt Sandra last year. May you rest easy Charles. Sending so much love. XOXO~Susie

Every Sunday as Pastor of Immanuel, Brandon, I was privileged to be blessed by the music and choral leadership of Charles Short. He played with a passion and skill born out of struggles, yes, but also out of grace, faith, and perseverance! His joy in worship will always move me as a believer in Christ. He was a blessing to so many and I will never forget our times in service to God and to His Church. God bless you Charles, and God's peace to all who love you and miss you,

I remember fondly the wonderful lessons you taught me over the years, with piano and life alike. It was always a treat to be able to play on your baby grand piano and to watch you play, as well! The way you played was unlike anyone else, so distinct and set apart!  At church, you played the organ so effortlessly, and I will say that your talent has gone unmatched over the years. You truly were an inspiration with your passion and love for music. Thank you for your lessons and all the grand memories that I will forever hold. May you rest in peace ❤️

Dear Charlie - We had not seen each other since our summer in Chautauqua in 1968, where we studied with Ozan Marsh. Who could forget your brilliant performance of Mendelssohn's Variations Serieuses? But just this week your name popped into my head and so I googled you, only to discover that you recently departed this life.  I remember you fondly - and may you rest in eternal peace.

I loved Wednesdays in our house when Mr. Short was here to give our son a piano lesson. I loved his voice, wit, kindness, and listening to him play so beautifully. It has been an honor these last weeks to spend more time with him. We shared such lovely moments as we listened to music one morning together or talked about his love of classical music, dear friends, and his cat, Levi. He was a phenomenal teacher and was patient and highly skilled at teaching others. Those nights when music filled our house and I could hear Mr. Short’s warm encouragement and laughter are some of my favorite memories of my son’s childhood that we will treasure forever. Much peace, strength and love to his dear family and friends at this difficult time. ❤️
