Clarence Bluhm

Clarence Bluhm, 93, of Clearwater, passed away peacefully on Thursday, January 6, 2011 to join his beloved wife of sixty years, “Micky”. He was born on August 17, 1917 in Reed City, MI to Aaron Bluhm and Anna (Benzine), the second eldest of seven children. After graduating from Reed City High School in 1935, he continued to work on the family farm until enlisting in the US Army on Oct 21, 1941 where he served in both the European and Pacific Theaters during World War II. Upon re-enlistment in 1946, Sgt. Clarence Bluhm was assigned to the US Army Hospital in Breman, Germany where he met the love of his life, Elfriede Christine Tuescher (“Micky”) and they were married Aug. 28, 1948. Returning to the United States they were stationed in Fort Riley, KS where their beloved son, Robert was born and “Micky” became a naturalized US citizen. Subsequent tours of duty included Ludwigsburg, Germany; Letterman Hospital at the Presidio in San Francisco, CA; Uijongu, South Korea; Heildelberg, Germany and Fort Eustis, VA where he was promoted to Command Sergeant Major. Upon his retirement from the US Army in 1971, after 30 years of service, they relocated to Clearwater where he began his second career as a postal carrier with the Largo Post Office until his retirement in 1983 in order to pursue his passions for bowling, travel and spending time with family and friends.

Clarence is survived by his devoted son, Robert, of Clearwater; beloved sister, Martha (George) Wollner of Comstock Park, MI; brothers, Elmer Bluhm of Spring Lake, MI and Robert (Grace) Bluhm of Jenison, MI; sister-in-laws, Marjorie Bluhm and Donnabelle Bluhm of Reed City, MI and many nieces and nephews.

Memorial celebrations of his life will be held 6:00PM, January 21 , 2011 at the Moss Feaster Funeral Home, 693 S. Belcher Rd, Clearwater and in Reed City, MI at a later date.

In remembrance of Clarence, donations may be sent to the Salvation Army.
