Daniel R Schmitt

Born in New York City, New York, he moved to Florida and received his degree from Tarpon Springs High School in 1957. He began his technical career in electrical and mechanical contracting where he did work for many of the most recognizable builders in Pasco and Pinellas Counties in the early years. In 1965, he founded Schmitt, Inc. which has grown to be one of the largest independently owned electrical and HVAC contractors serving the greater west central Florida area. For the past 60 years, the company has been responsible for installation and servicing tens of thousands of residential and commercial customers. His oldest son, Danny Schmitt took over running the company in 2008 so he could enjoy his recreational pursuits.

Dan held both electrical and mechanical licenses with numerous counties and municipal authorities and the State of Florida Department of Business Regulation. The company has been recognized many times over the years by leading air conditioning companies for its outstanding performance and sales. He served as a member of the board of directors of People State Bank in Pinellas County which was sold to Synovus Bank in 2004.

Dan was an avid outdoorsman. He had a passion for flying his plane, making frequent trips to Marathon and Key West for fishing trip. He spent time on both of his two boats docked behind his beautiful home on the Cottee River and making trips offshore fishing for grouper. He also enjoyed many trips to Boca Grande with his friends for the annual tarpon season. While his daily drive was a pickup truck, Dan also enjoyed taking his convertible BMW and Corvette out for spins.

Dan is survived by his son, Daniel K. Schmitt and his wife Dana & grandson Xander, and son Thomas Schmitt. He will be missed by all of his good buddies in construction industry, work friends and family. May he rest in peace.

A private celebration of life is being handled by Sylvan Abbey in Clearwater.
