

Demetra is preceded in death by her husband George Liakos, to whom she was married for 63 years, she is also preceded in death by her brothers; Haralambos Pilarinos, Georgios Pilarinos, Ioannis Pilarinos, Mixalis Pilarinos and sisters; Anastasia Mouzakis and Maria Marinos. She is survived by her daughters; Penny Lambrianos (Chris) of Tarpon Springs, Fla. and Dr. Rina Roula Bousalis of Pompano Beach, Fla., granddaughters; Angela Bousalis of Miami, Fla., Dr. Deanna Bousalis Chu (Winston) of North Potomac, Md., and Eleni Lambrianos of Tarpon Springs, Fla., brothers; Eustathios Pilarinos, Spyridon Pilarinos and sister-in-law Soula Pilarinou, several nephews, nieces and cousins both in the US and Greece. Demetra was born in Alikanas on the island of Zakynthos in Greece on May 10, 1929. Soon after the 1953 Great Ionian Earthquake that devastated her homeland, Demetra immigrated to the United States and began working in the restaurant industry in Chicago, Ill. It was there that she met and wed in 1956 George Liakos. In 1973, Demetra and George moved their family to Florida where George’s construction business prospered and Demetra’s skill in cooking was utilized as they eventually in 1979, built, owned, and operated The Paradise Restaurant in Safety Harbor, Fla. After retiring, Demetra and George traveled the world. As a proud (yet rarely winning) card player, Demetra’s family and friends were her “greatest aces.”
A visitation will be held on Sunday, April 2, 2023 from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm with a Trisagion service at 6:00 pm at Sylvan Abbey Funeral Home, 2853 Sunset Point Road, Clearwater, Fla. The funeral service will take place at 11:00 am on Monday, April 3 at the Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church, 403 South Old Coachmen Road, Clearwater, Fla 33765.
In lieu of flowers, Memorial contributions may be made to the Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church building fund or the St. Nicholas St. Dionysios Chapel of Tarpon Springs building fund.
