He was born in Mansfield, Ohio on May 2, 1927 to the late Benton & Irene (Johnson) Heiser.
Don met his beautiful late wife, Marjorie, through her brother when they were in school; and, she began writing to him while he was overseas in the Navy. She stood waiting for him at the train station when he returned, and that sealed the deal for Don to make her his wife. They raised a family and lived a wonderful life together.
Don built large wooden boats by trade, and was the General Manager of Clearwater Bay Marine Ways.
After he retired, Don continued with various types of woodworking for pleasure. He was active as a Scout Master of Scout Troop 50. He served on the Marine Advisory Board for the city of Clearwater. He was a member of the Power Squadron. He worked with the Sea Scouts. He sailed sailboats on the southern and Florida circuits. He was a lifelong member of the Moose Lodge. He was a member of the First Methodist Church of Clearwater. He was also a member of the Masonic Lodge.
His family will be grateful to see him receive his Naval military honors when he joins his beloved wife at Florida National Cemetery in Bushnell, Florida.
Don is survived by his son, Thomas Heiser, and daughter, Patricia Burns with her husband Ray; grandson, Donald Burns with his wife Jeanna; and his great grandchildren, Draven and Kaydn Burns.
