Dorothy Ann Sherbuk (“Dot”) decided it was time to break free of her physical limitations and join her husband, family and friends in the next life. Dorothy was born on February 20, 1933 in Rockaway, New Jersey to Anna Gula and Stephen Sceranko. She lived on Franklin Avenue for the early years of her life. She was a graduate of Rockaway High School. On May 10, 1952 she married John Sherbuk. They spent the next 72 years together. Her life revolved around her three children, Theresa, Stephen and John. Dot worked for many years for the Boro of Rockaway and spent any additional free time volunteering her time at Sacred Heart Church and later Sacred Heart School. She was a member of the Rosary Society and served as Secretary of the Slovac Society. She enjoyed nights out with her Mother playing Bingo. As her children grew older she enjoyed traveling with her husband and close friends. She loved coordinating vacations to locations that had casinos. The one armed bandit was a particular favorite. Entertaining was her passion and weekends were never without a house full of friends and relatives, with rousing games of pinochle at the center of the excitement. Memorial Day opened the picnic season at 10 Chestnut Terrace. The dual draw of the pool and abundant food and drink ensured a crowd, everyone was welcome and no one needed an invitation. She was the devoted wife of a volunteer firefighter, and eventually, fire chief. When they retired in 1984 Dot and John moved to Clearwater, Florida and they remained there for the rest of their years. Still traveling from time to time and filling their extra time at TwoBuks, the family bar. Holidays were filled with grandchildren and soon great-grandchildren. The parties continued. She did enjoy the outings to the Hard Rock Casino and the RedRock Casino in Las Vegas. With some limitations in her mobility later in life Dot still remained loyal to the call of gaming, choosing lottery tickets as her main focus of enjoyment to the very end. Everyone could expect lottery tickets for their birthday.
Dorothy was predeceased by her husband John, her parents Anna and Stephen, her granddaughter Victoria Agnes Sherbuk and grandson Denis Hayes Rodimer, Jr.. She is survived by her daughter Theresa Rodimer (Denis), and sons Stephen Sherbuk (Deb) and John Sherbuk (Maddie). She always held Sandy and Liz in fondest regard. She loved having her grandchildren over for fun times and games of Bingo. Those grandchildren, Daniel Rodimer (Sarah) , Rebecca Cirrinicione (Peter), Wesley Sherbuk, Christine Perez (Michael), Jacqueline Sherbuk Gonzales (Carlos), Lauren Anischko (Christopher), Taryn and Jason Harrison (Karlen) and Sean Sykes will always remember the fun. Great Grandchildren were welcomed, Valentine, Violet, Ruby, Bella, Sylas, Attice, Michael, Reagan and Callum, Ella and Anna, Lucas, Nate and Emma, Ridley and Colbie, Sydney and Ivy. Dot and John felt truly blessed they lived to see and enjoy these children.
A Funeral Mass will be held on November 14, at 10:30am at St. Michael the Archangel Church in Clearwater, then interment at Sylvan Abby. A Celebration of Life will follow at Sylvan Abbey and, hopefully, we ae praying it will be up to the party standards Dot would expect.
