OBITUARY

Dorothy L Simmons

January 18, 1928November 23, 2019

From a Plant City girl, to a Registered Nurse, on to a Korean War Veteran of the Navy, Dottie was a hard working, loyal, dependable, and caring member of the Mongan family, via her best friend, Lois Mongan, also a Registered Nurse & fellow Korean War Vet. They were both kind & loyal to all that knew them & 100% devoted to all the Christian values of their faith. Lois passed away in 2017. Dottie did her utmost to care for her, as long as she could. So glad Dottie entered all our lives. RIP

Dottie, "we miss you", three heartfelt words; and even though tears of sorrow aren't in Heaven, I'm sure there were tears of joy at reunions with loved ones. And we want to say three more heartfelt words: WE LOVE YOU! "Brother" Lynwood

I have only known Dottie for 2 years and wished it were much longer. She was a wonderful neighbor, always had funny stories to tell and many times broke into a song. She accepted everything life handed her with a smile. I feel fortunate and blessed to have known her and I extend my sympathies to the family .

When this new widow (little old me) came to town in 1981 from El Paso, Tex, with a three year old son & 15 year old daughter, Dottie & Lois took us in till I could find a home to buy & a car to drive. What was supposed to be one week or so, turned into one month, due to selling the home in Tex., when the sale fell through. We always spent the holidays together. Dottie never failed to pitch in where she felt was needed. We five had vacations, & many nice memories over the years. Dottie was not a blood relative, or an in-law by marriage, but we found that sometimes the old saying "blood is thicker than water", doesn't always hold true. I do believe it is true, "you can't pick your relatives, but you CAN PICK YOUR FRIENDS". So, we always thought of Dottie as "Aunt" Dottie with the kids, & my "sister-in-law". With love & thanks dear Dottie. Yvonne
