Andy was predeceased by his wife of 49 years, Margaret in 1996 and Grandson Michael in 2018 and oldest Son Richard in 2021. He is survived by Sons, Charles & Stephen and Daughter in law, Sara Devine...
Andy was born in Brooklyn, NY, when BROOKLYN WAS THE WORLD, and at age 17 enlisted in the US NAVY SERVING IN THE Pacific DURING WWII...Andy was a Crew Member on The USS Ommaney Bay (CVE–79) a Casablanca-class escort carrier of the United States Navy, the ship took part in the Mariana and Palau Islands campaign
followed by several battles during the Philippines campaign in 1944 and early 1945. On 4 January 1945, five days before his 19th birthday aboard the OMMANEY BAY, THIS HAPPENED... the ship was heavily damaged in a kamikaze attack, A total of 95 Navy men were lost, and 65 men were wounded, Rescue was provided by the Cruiser Ship (USS Columbia CL.56) and at 19:58 the carrier was scuttled by a torpedo from the destroyer
Burns, under orders from Admiral Jesse B. Oldendorf.and on 6 January and on 9 January, Columbia was struck by kamikaze attacks, killing seven survivors rescued from Ommaney Bay...After the WAR, Andy remained in the NAVY and retired after serving 30 years...He also was a member of the AIR MARSHALS and worked for the US CUSTOMS DEPARTMENT after retiring from the US NAVY...after stopping play with the Three Quarter Century Softball Club also known as the Kids & Kubs around the middle of 2019, he was an employee of Home Depot in the Tyrone (St Pete) area.
For more than 40 years, possibly as early as the late 1970’s, Andy began playing softball ON A FIELD OF DREAMS FOR SENIORS in St. Petersburg with the St Pete Half Century and in 2000 with the Kids & Kubs, also with the Clearwater Blues, Tampa Statewide Laundry and during Summers beginning in the late 1990’s with the OLD BONES in Franklin North Carolina...Around the middle of the 1980’s, Andy started playing in NATIONAL SENIOR TOURNAMENTS in many-many locations around THE GRAND OLE USA...ANDY was voted into the SENIOR SOFTBALL HALL OF FAME IN ABOUT 2002...
